Leningrad born artist and film director Uldus Bakhtiozina coming from the family with mixed religions and nationalities, expressing her family background through her artistic works.

Uldus has two degrees: one in politics, the other in graphic design. She studied at West-North Academy of Public administration in Saint-Petersburg and at University of Arts, London, there she also took a course in street fashion photography at Saint Martins, which introduced her to the world of photography.

In October 2014, Uldus was named one of the 100 women changing the world for the better by the BBC.

In 2014 Uldus became first Russian speaker in a history of TED conference, gave a talk in March 2014, Vancouver, Canada about her photo project Desperate Romantics. Since the beginning of 2016 Uldus has become Senior TED fellow. In April 2017 Uldus gave her second Ted Talk about her project Conjured Life. Both talks are available at TED. They have been viewed over two million times.

Uldus also spoke at Conference CDI conference in Mexico, as a finalist of Gifted Citizen Prize.

In June 2016 Vogue Italy named Bakhtiozina the Best Young Fashion Photographer at PhotoVogue.

In March 2017 Uldus was a finalist in the Laguna Art Prize.

Uldus has had work exhibited in Russia, England, Germany, Canada, Hong Kong, Italy and the United States. Bakhtiozina represented by Anna Nova gallery, Russia.

Uldus’s works are included in permanent collections at the Ruya Foundation of Contemporary Art in Iraq; Faberge Museum in St Petersburg; Tretyakovskaya

She is a member of the Royal Society of Arts, London.

In the 2019/20 Season Uldus made her debut at Royal Opera House as costume and make-up designer and style supervisor for Aisha and Abhaya, a co-production between The Royal Ballet and Rambert. In 2021 Uldus created costumes, make-up and style for a huge performance at Mariinskyi Theatre, based on Stravinsky Music. This opera and ballet in one got 8 nominations for "Golden Mask" Award, including costumes nomination.

In 2020 Bakhtiozina has completed her work as a film director, script writer, costume designer and producer for her feature film debut Tzarevna Scaling (Дочь Рыбака), which was broadcasting in all big cities across Russia and participated at Andrey Tarkovskiy film festival «Zerkalo» in summer 2020. In 2021 this film was selected for Berlinale Film Festival and made it as the only one feature film from Russia at Berlinale 2021. Tzarevna Scaling (Дочь Рыбака) also got selected for Shanghai IFF, Riga IFF, Raindance and many others film festivals, made it to over 12 countries with screenings in more than 100 cities around the world.
